manufactured. . WOW!!! 1971 was the last of the 442's glory
years. This was the LAST of the muscle car era, it was GM's longest
lived muscle car with a history back to 1964 when the 442 was an
option !!

For 1970 the Oldsmobile 442 was
invited to pace the Indianapolis 500 race. New for this year was the
455 cubic-inch V8 engine which became the standard engine. In
1971 Oldsmobile no longer offered the sport coupe body-style, leaving
only a coupe or convertible to select from. The muscle car era was
coming to an end due to stricter government regulations, safety
concerns, and an impending oil embargo. As a result, vehicles
throughout the industry saw a decrease in power. The 1971 Olds 442 is
a true Muscle car, with a 455 cubic-inch engine producing 340
horsepower.
