They will tell the whole story! The
body and chassis were given to custom coach in Fort Lauderdale for a
body off restoration. She
was born Colorado Red as shown on the British motor heritage
certificate. When restoration was started, it was BRG paint. On dash was
a plaque stating “Dallas Texas”, so it is assumed it was a Texas
car…I love the Healey Blue over old English White, with Navy Blue
interior. The
engine was completely disassembled and rebuilt to as New Condition with
all original or nos items. The wiring harness was completely replaced
with a new cloth covered loom per the original. Most electrical items
were replaced with either nos items or reproductions available from many
British parts suppliers. Very
Rare DESIRABLE 6 port head, as she was built towards the end of the
production run for the 100-6 series. The 6 port head was standard on
3000 series. Equipped
with optional electric overdrive adding 2 additional gears! The
transmission was completely disassembled and rebuilt using all new gears
including the lay gear which were sourced over 18 month period and being
found from the U.K. to Canada, as well as the U.S. As the original parts
were becoming scarce, it was decided to have ALL
OF THE GEARS FINISHED WITH AIRCRAFT GRADE TEFLON COATING to
insure the longest life possible, as well as ONE OF THE SMOOTHEST
SHIFTING HEALEYS YOU WILL EVER DRIVE. ICE
COLD FACTORY AIR CONDITIONING; A few years after completion, several
rare items were found and installed. The first being an ORIGINAL N.O.S.
- A/C UNIT (still sealed in the original box) Coolaire of Miami, BMC
Factory AUTHORIZED under dash air conditioning unit! This unit was
installed using all modern components under the hood such as the
condenser and compressor. THE ULTIMATE AMERICAN-STYLE ACCESSORY; in the
1966, BMC/Hambro introduced “Air Conditioning for BMC Cars” in a BMC
Parts Sales Bulletin to its U.S. Dealers. The kit was manufactured by
Coolaire in Miami, Florida. The big problem with A/C was the retail
price of $335 to $385 which was about 10% of the full retail price of
the car. The
next step was finding a factory built hard top, which was completely
restored allowing the cold air to say where it belonged. This
1958 Austin Healey 100-6 thoroughbred roadster has been driven from Fort
Lauderdale to as far away as Winston Salem, North Carolina where it
received first place in it class at “the gathering” British meet.
This roadster has WON many - FIRST PLACE TROPHY’S throughout the
southeast!!!! TUNES;
Sony AM/FM/CD player! Speakers (2 of them) are located deep into the
foot wells and is operated with a hand held remote control. There is a
manual radio antennae mounted on the front fender. There is an amplifier
mounted on the gas fill tube cover tucked in the back of the trunk. GAGES;
were rebuilt by Westfield Instruments. The “trafficator” or turn
signal is a switch located above the horn button on the center of the
steering wheel and was completely rebuilt and works properly. SEAT
BELTS; were added for both front and rear seats for safety, as well as
local laws NOW REQUIRING them even for classic cars! TONNEAU
COVER; is blue that can be unzipped for use during driving for 1 or 2
people and stores easily in the trunk. ENGINE
and BAY; are excellent with a Show Motor that has benefitted from
professional attention. The motor is the 2900cc inline 6 cylinder with
twin S.U. HD8 side draught carburetors. The engine was kept basically
stock with the exception of a few aesthetic upgrades such as: Polishing
the pots of the S.U carbs. When the radiator was removed disassembled
and striped, the seller found the “head” of the radiator was
actually brass that was painted black by factory. Instead of painting
it, it was re-plated and polished. The Original valve cover was stripped
and chrome plated, as were many brackets that were originally chromed
and a few that weren’t. The motor runs strong and is extremely
reliable and can cruise @100 m.p.h – an Oil cooler was installed below
the front bumper which aids in cooling during extremely hot days along
with a thermostatically controlled fan on the radiator! EXHAUST
SYSTEM is an original design product fabricated in stainless steel and
jet coated black giving this Healey a marvelous exhaust note. The
muffler and header pipe were replaced as well. CONVERTIBLE
TOP; has only been erected 4 times and is like new “Navy Blue”. The
convertible top frame was restored. INTERIOR;
all new leather with “dynamat” sound and heat shield matting was
placed under all carpeted areas. The carpet was replaced using Wilton
with all the correct rubber flooring inserts. The seat frames and pans
were replaced, as were the rear seat pans before being recovered. The
seatbacks TILT FORWARD to allow rear passengers easy access. The door
panels were also done in leather. All interior chrome pieces were
re-plated down to the rings around gages. The heater control unit is
new. BODY;
was painted using a clear base / clearcoat to match the original colors
using a formula furnished by one of the top Healey restoration shops,
with Navy Blue Leather interior. BODY; went through a 3 year process of
being stripped down and re-built with new floor pans for the passenger
compartment, as well as the trunk floor. Several other worn braces and
chassis outriggers were replaced or repaired as needed until the chassis
was in as NEW CONDITION. COLORS
are “Healey Blue” over “Old English White” with an all Navy Blue
leather interior. TRANSMISSION;
all gears were sent to an aircraft coatings company that applies TEFLON
to high friction components extending the life of the component. Gears
are becoming short in supply “scarce”, and this was a good insurance
policy for the future. CARBURETORS
were rebuilt by CARB SPECIALIST “Joe Curto”. ARMSTRONG
lever type shocks were rebuilt by Apple Hydraulics, a specialist with
this product. ALL
DOCUMENTATION WILL GO TO NEW OWNER - A COMPLETE LIST OF SUPPLIERS. WAY
TOO MUCH TO ADD. RADIATOR
and five blade cooling along with electric fan circumvent the cars
propensity to overheat. Best
of all, it is a phenomenal driving car that imparts the pleasure and
satisfaction of driving the ultimate Healey. The
restoration on this particular car strikes a nice balance between
beautiful street presence and usability that is sure to make this car
among the new owner’s favorite cars to actually drive. This
1958 Austin Healey 100-6 makes financial sense, especially with the
strong market that British sports cars are enjoying! First
